Cloth Cultures: Sunny Dolat, Jeremy Hutchison and Amber Butchart In Conversation
Our very own Sunny Dolat had a wonderful and insightful conversation with fashion historian Amber Butchart for her podcast series 3 of Cloth Cultures! The series focuses on the themes of this year’s British Textile Biennial, and brings in artists and curators who will be exhibiting in the Biennial and experts from the fashion and clothing industry together to discuss the themes that arise from the different pieces, and the complex, political histories of textiles.
In this episode, Sunny talks about “Return To Sender”, unpacking the multifaceted impact and dynamics of second-hand clothing and its economic and environmental implications. He also discusses delving the inherent imperialism embedded within the matter of textile waste. Also featured in the episode is Jeremy Hutchison, a British artist whose installation, ‘Dead White Man,’ will also be showing at this year’s British Textile Biennial. Jeremy discusses his installation, ‘zombie imperialism’, consumerism, and much more!
