Return To Sender At The British Textile Biennial 2023!
Our art installation, Return to Sender, will be showing at the British Textile Biennial 2023! Originally commissioned for Documenta 15 in 2022, we are thrilled to bring it to the British Textile Biennial, where it will be showing at The Exchange, Blackburn from September 29 to October 29, 2023.
Several counties in rural England were hubs for fast fashion manufacture in the early 20th century, as the industrial revolution took hold in the Global North (and their colonial extraction for raw materials took over much of the Global South). This year’s edition of the Biennale (the third) explores the long and winding paths travelled by fibres and fabrics across the world, including the paths of bales of second-hand clothing and textile waste.” Return To Sender” thus joins several other art pieces in this critical conversation, exploring what BTB describes as a “vicious and unsustainable cycle of labour, manufacture and trade”.
