Stories of Our Lives: Now on Showmax South Africa!

Our anthology film’ Stories of Our Lives’ is now showing on ShowMax South Africa! Stories of Our Lives began as a documentary archival project in 2013 (yes, it has really been that long!). We collected over 250 stories of Kenyans identifying as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex from 9 cities and towns all over the country: those stories are some of the most beautiful, joyful, sad, intimate, futuristic, wild, glorious, inappropriate, nostalgic and wholesome narratives we’ve ever been honoured with, and we remain grateful to this day to all the wonderful people who shared such personal moments with us.

Our First Festival: Presenting DASH!

Our first ever festival is coming your way in a week! The online audiovisual festival is called DASH, to celebrate fun, fast engagements that make the most of every available moment. The festival is an original series of curated, connected content by Kenyan artists, solo and in collaboration, and will feature live music and DJ performances, as well as some scintillating talks. DASH is helmed, from concept to output, by our very own Akati, Mars, Njeri, Noel and JP, who brought together, shot and edited this set of wonderful artists!

Our very own Dr. Njoki Ngumi was one of the panelists for the Fakugesi Online Festival 2020 discussion titled ‘Digital Transformation and Cultural Heritage in the Global South’, alongside Indonesia’s Lisistrata Lusandiana (the executive director of the Indonesia Visual Art Archive) and Brazil’s Cristiana Selveira Serejo (the vice director of the Museu Nacional UFRJ in Rio de Janeiro).

Fashion Revolution: Nairobi X London on Sustainability and Alternative Fibres

Our very own Sunny Dolat was in a panel conversation with Niamh Tuft, the global network manager of Fashion Revolution UK, discussing the work of the Kenya chapter in sustainable fashion in the African context. Moderated by Wangari Nyanjui, founder of African lifestyle brand Peperuka and country coordinator of the Kenya chapter, Niamh and Sunny discussed Fashion Revolution’s 2019 impact report, which expounded on challenges the fashion industry faces, and the process of creating mass products that can speak to local needs.

Work In Progress: It's A Wrap!

We've just wrapped shooting our feature film! We've been filming for three weeks on different sets and locations around Nairobi, ensuring that we adhered to local and international safety guidelines on workplace COVID-19 prevention that included: temperature and health checks at the beginning of every day; frequent, regular hand washing; and sanitising and face masks on at all times. This was made possible with the help of Anita Inziani, the wonderful freelance set nurse, who has expertise in helping cast and crew be COVID-aware and COVID-safe.
