IIP Object Movement Dialogues #05: Imagining Beyond Imperialism
Our very own Dr. Njoki Ngumi will be moderating a conversation for the International Inventories Programme Object Movement Dialogues on Thursday 15th October 2020 (today!) at 7PM EAT! The OMDs are an informal public engagement and interactive discussion unpacking different themes and elements that are part of the conversation on Kenyan objects in museums abroad, and object return/restitution. This is titled ‘Imagining Beyond Imperialism’.
The conversation will be between 2 wonderful panelists: Olivia Windham-Stewart of the Museum of British Colonialism and Chao Tayiana of Open Restitution Africa (also of MBC). They will be discussing the changing conversation in Britain, in the context of its violent colonial history, around the objects and narratives still held hostage on its soil. This will also be the first OMD virtual edition— all the rest were held physically at the Goethe Institute in Nairobi, but this was also before the COVID pandemic and the restrictions on physical gatherings. The session will be live on the International Inventories Programme (IIP) Facebook page! The University of Oxford’s Professor Dan Hicks was also slated to be with us today, but will be better able to join us at a later date.
Join Olivia, Chao and Njoki for this dynamic discussion later today from 7PM EAT!
