The Nest Collective on Monopol Magazin’s 2022 Top 100 List!

We are super humbled to learn and share that we are on the 2022 Monopol Magazin’s 100 list! Every year, this German art publication of note releases a curated selection of 100 folks said to be making key contributions in the field of contemporary arts, and whose work has inspired and impacted the art world in many different ways.

We are honestly speechless that we have been placed alongside some truly incredible people who have made the world so much more beautiful, thoughtful and brave, including but not limited to: ruangrupa, the wonderful Indonesian collective who curated documenta15 this year (read more about our documenta work here); Simone Leigh, the famous sculptor who does stunning imagery centering Black women; Miuccia Prada, who helms creative at fashion label Prada and Miu Miu; Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung, art curator, writer, lead at SAVVY Contemporary and incoming director of Haus de Culturen de Welt; Carrie Mae Weems, multigenre genius who, in her own words, “bears witness to history” through many different forms and explorations; Arthur Jafa, whose cinematographic work references, explores and pays homage to Blackness and Black being; Sonia Boyce, OBE, artist, educator and designer interested in art as social practice; Sir Frank Bowling, British-Guyanese visual artist extraordinaire who has fiercely made room for Black artists in abstract work; Isaac Julien, filmmaker and installation artist who diffuses barriers between different forms; Mickalene Thomas, who works in rhinestones, enamel and acrylic to express female sexuality, beauty and power; Dan Perjovschi, visual artist, illustrator and graffiti practitioner (who was also in our documenta peer group!); Kenyan-born British visual artist Michael Armitage who explores mythology and realist media in mapping out social change narratives; Nigerian-American living-installation conjurer Precious Okoyomon; Haitian arts and sculpture collective Artiz Rezistans, who make radical economic statements through striking assemblage pieces; Norwegian-Congolese visual artist Sandra Mujinga, who focuses on the body and its absence; and renowned Chinese artivist luminary Ai Weiwei.

We’re super proud and honored to close this long year as part of this inspiring group of artists! You can read more about the 2022 Monopol Top 100 here.
