The NEST At LIFT Festival: Premiering The Feminine and The Foreign!
We are thrilled to share that we will FINALLY be at the 2022 LIFT Festival this June, after all our grand 2020 plans evaporated into the COVID-19 pandemic-borne chaos…! We’re honoured to finally premier our documentary film series, The Feminine and The Foreign (F+F).
LIFT is a bi-annual London festival that showcases excellent, thought-provoking performances in film and theatre. The 2022 festival will be running from 23rd June to 10th July, and will feature performances, conversations, films, and stories from artists from Milan, Helsinki, Vilnius, London, and Nairobi.
The Feminine and The Foreign is a series of films that explore and pay homage to the work, reflections, and homes of black feminist, queer, and immigrant activists, organisers, and community workers, and their communities, in Cape Town and London. We shot these films in London and Cape Town remotely in the thick of the pandemic, directing over Zoom and with able crews on site making sure everything was going well and treating our film participants with care. We’re thrilled to finally be presenting these two films, and meeting several of the wonderful people we worked with to realise them.
Alongside the premiere, we will be hosting a party (where we’ll be DJ’ing!) and a series of informal dialogues called the Kitchen Conversations, connecting with Londoners who identify as Black, African, and African diasporic, exploring Pan-Africanism and identity. We’re thrilled to be doing this in collaboration with SOAS University of London!
We’ve been friends with the good folks at LIFT since 2019, and one example of that is this episode of their podcast where we explored futuremaking together! Stay tuned for more F+F details, and if you’ll be in London in late June/early July, you can buy the festival tickets here!
