LOOKU: Co-directed By Sunny Dolat x Noel Kasyoka

Our very own Sunny Dolat and Noel Kayoka co-directed LOOKU, a film celebrating Nairobi’s affair with fashion and style. The 5-minute film is an audiovisual accompaniment to Wauzine—a limited three-issue digital publication by the British Council East Africa Arts Programme through Creative DNA! (Check out the 3 issues of Wauzine here!)

LOOKU explores Nairobi’s fashion and style through its different and diverse neighbourhoods, and features the models and the beautiful work of the designers, moving in, and as part of, the hustle and bustle of the Nairobi city centre.

Our very own Mars Maasai did sound design for the film. “I was mostly speaking from a very neighbourhood perspective, where I am from… being from a place where style is like a status symbol, it was important for me to show that the stereotypes of style don't define us, and that so many reasons exist to explain why people dress the way they dress, and choose to present the way they present.” he says.

Noel and Sunny also did a panel discussion that featured creatives involved in the WAUZINE project, where they spoke about the making of the film, building artistic communities, and much more!
