So Much ‘Africa’ Photography, So Few African Photographers: Jim Chuchu In Conversation
Our very own Jim Chuchu will be a panelist for the Visual Identities in Art and Design’s (VIAD) Reading The Moment session titled ‘So Much ‘Africa’ Photography, So Few African Photographers’. He's speaking alongside Olfa Feki (independent curator), Lekgetho Makola of Javett Art Centre, and Marwa Abou Leila of Photopia Cairo!
This will be the third session in the three-part webinar dialogue series ‘Photography, Power and The Ethics of Representation’, featuring discussions centred around representation politics, alternative histories, the roles that arts organisations play in the recycling of racial-sexual marginalisation, and more.
Moderated by Neelika Jayawardane, the panel discussion will center on the ways in which African people, and their continent, continue to be imaged, imagined and presented as 'othered' peoples and locations, along with exploring the role of photography in racialism and othering.
Register for the webinar here, to catch Jim, Olfa, Lekgetho and Marwa this Friday, 5th November 2021 at 7PM EAT, for this insightful conversation!
